Aja Youman assists Brooke for labor and birth. Traditionally two trained professionals attend each homebirth. In addition to assisting Brooke with her client’s homebirths, Aja is co-owner of Mt Helix Midwives in San Diego.
I am a San Diego native who had always dreamed of becoming a midwife as a little girl. I was born at home, in my parent’s bed, surrounded by my family. I was enchanted by the stories and photos of my birth where my mother Sally delivered me by reaching down and pulling me out and up onto her chest. I have always had an innate understanding that women and babies should have the opportunity to experience the sacred passage in this way. After highschool I attended Mueller College of Holistic Studies and became a Certified Massage Therapist and Holistic Health Practitioner. I have maintained a thriving practice for many years before becoming a birth and postpartum doula. After the birth of my daughter in 2011, I decided to pursue a career in home birth midwifery and attended Nizhoni Institute of Midwifery in San Diego. After 6 years of education I became a Licensed Midwife and started serving families in San Diego. When I am not attending home births or working with my postpartum doula babies, I am spending time with my daughter Ireland and my husband Zo in this beautiful city!
