Insurance Accepted For Homebirth

Brooke Ray Midwife works with most PPO insurance plans. She is an out of network care provider and works with a biller, Maureen George, to ensure that you receive maximum reimbursement for the care you receive. This billing service is included in the homebirth fees.

During the course of your pregnancy, you will be charged an inclusive global maternity fee. This fee includes the professional fees for prenatal care, birth, and postpartum and a fee for setting up all birthing equipment and supplies in your home.

After the birth, Maureen will bill the PPO insurance for all professional services rendered during your prenatal care, the birth, postpartum, and newborn care. You may sometimes receive reimbursements during your care but will receive most of the insurance reimbursement sometime after your six-week postpartum visit.

How much your insurance covers and the reimbursements you receive depend on your individual benefits. You may contact your insurance or look at their website to view your benefits. You may also speak to Maureen to help sort out the often confusing details. Please email her at info@brookeraymidwife.com

Specific questions to ask your insurance:

  • Is Homebirth covered?
  • What are my out-of-network benefits? At what percentage are out of Network Care Providers covered?
HMOs do not pay any of the homebirth fees because it is out of network. Families with HMOs are given a discount of $300 from their homebirth fees. Labs might be covered if the HMO includes Lab Corp in network. Ultrasounds may be covered if the HMO includes Sono Health in network. If Lab Corp is not in network for the HMO, discounted rate are offered through Professional Lab Coop.
Brooke Ray Midwife is a preferred provider for TRICARE Select and we serve many military families. Families may switch from Tricare Prime to Tricare Select during open enrollment. Tricare Select covers all labs, ultrasounds, and professional midwife fees. They do not pay for a facility fee for homebirth and so the family is charged an uncovered service fee for the maintenance and transport of the homebirth gear and equipment and supplies.
Brooke is not in network for Tricare Prime but individuals may request a referral to her in order to have a homebirth. https://tricare.mil/coveredservices/isitcovered/maternitycare.aspx
Brooke is contracted with MediCal. She is an approved provider by the State of California’s Medi-Cal Access Program. She accepts Straight MediCal and Community Health Group. An individual may switch to straight MediCal or CHG during her pregnancy. MediCal covers all labs, ultrasounds, and professional midwife fees.
